David Vavroch, 65, of Ankeny, Iowa, passed away July 11, 2023, at home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
David was born on Jan. 19, 1958, to Donald and Della Vavroch of Belle Plaine, Iowa, one of five children. He is survived by his mother, Della; and siblings, Jim (Karla) Vavroch and Lisa Jones, both of Belle Plaine.
David graduated from Belle Plaine, Class of 1976. After high school he was employed at Motor Supply Warehouse and then into meat cutting for a short time then went to work for Carquest Auto Parts, where he worked for 37 years.
David married his high school sweetheart Janet Long on April 26, 1980. They were blessed with two daughters, Jodie and Jennifer.
Dave and Janet enjoyed life together with a passion for traveling and site seeing to many national parks riding on “Hank the Tank.” They were always on the go, when not on Hank they enjoyed spending time with their family and friends. David enjoyed the outdoors, where he met a lot of his close friends, also fishing, hunting, mushroom hunting, and the many trips to Canada with family.
David is survived by his wife of 43 wonderful years, Janet; daughter, Jodie (Wade) Kampen; grandchildren, Riley and Spencer; daughter, Jennifer Charlson; grandchildren, Jayden and Carter.
David was preceded in death by his father, Donald; two brothers, Douglas and Stanley; mother and father-in-law, Keith and Linda Long; brother-in-law, Ken Long; and numerous beloved pets.
Celebration of Life is 2 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, July 23, 2023, at the Belle Plaine County Club, with a reading at 2 p.m. and time for sharing to follow.
Following the celebration, all are welcome to join the ride honoring David with a “Last Ride” back to Ankeny.
