David Thorstenson, 65, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, Jan. 20, 2017. A gathering of family and friends will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of over 40 years, Linda; children, Andrea (Derek) Waite and Damian (Amanda) Thorstenson; grandchildren, Ryken and Larkyn Waite and Danielle Thorstenson and Colton Engel; brothers, Wayne and Dean Thorstenson; sisters, Eunice Kolsrud and Karla Honn; and many family members.
David Gene Thorstenson was born Aug. 14, 1951, in Waukon, Iowa, to Eilert and Charlotte (Jacobson) Thorstenson. He graduated from Waukon High School in 1969, then attended trade school in Minneapolis. He married Linda Irwin on April 8, 1976, in Rock Island, Ill. David was a forklift operator for Quaker Oats for 42 years until his retirement in 2014.
He belonged to the Quaker Golf League and RWDSU Local 110. David was an avid golfer, and always could be found on a golf course. He was never without a really good tan. He enjoyed reading Stephen King novels, figuring out crosswords and playing cards, especially euchre.
David was preceded in death by his parents, and infant sister, Ida Ann.
A memorial fund has been established in David's honor.
