David Timothy Stastny, 66, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital from a courageous battle with lung disease. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Hiawatha. Burial will follow at Campbell Cemetery. Visita-tion will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, where there will be a 5 p.m. Celebration of Life service.
David was born Jan. 29, 1948, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Edward and MaryAnn (Plotz) Stastny. He graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1967. Following, he attended Area 10 Com-munity College, where he studied auto body and paint. David was united in marriage to Kathleen Kunz on July 18, 1970, in Marion.
Dave began his life's work at Iowa Steel, Bob Zimmerman Ford, Sterner's Auto Body in Lisbon and Rapids Chevrolet. After 17 years, Dave retired from Rockwell-Goss.
In addition to working on cars in his garage, he collected die-cast model cars. Summers brought camping, boating, growing tomatoes and sugar-snap peas. Hawkeye fans forever, Dave and Kathy were season ticketholders in the "hey-day of Hayden Fry."
Dave's busy life included being crew-chief for his son's motocross team and watching his daughter in volleyball and softball. Also an avid NASCAR fan, Dave loved watching Dale Jr.'s many wins. He made time for his dachshund friend, Charlie, of 17 years. Feeding the birds and squirrels was a favorite pastime with his grandkids.
David is survived by his wife, Kathy, of over 44 years; children, Lori (Chris) Hagstrom and Andrew (Tabatha) Stastny; grandchildren, Gabby and Owen Hagstrom, Tori, A.J., Devin, Landin, Zoey and Keagan Stastny; sisters, Bernice (Joe) Simparosa of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Linda Bragg of Ely; nine brothers/sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. Dave also took pride in being godfather of four. Dave loved his grandchildren and his family meant the world to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Steve; and brother-in-law, Purley Bragg.
