David R. Smith, 70, of Delhi, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, at Delhi United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Samantha Mack officiating. Family will greet friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Crema-tion Service, Manchester, and one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Delhi, with military honors provided by Delhi American Legion Post 160.
David was born March 25, 1945, in Delhi, Iowa, the son of Roy and Margaret (Sweaney) Smith. David served in the U.S. Navy and the Army Reserve. On Dec. 5, 1967, he married Sharla Marie Gifford in Nashua. He worked as a service engineer with Iowa Precision Industries until his retirement in 2007.
David was a member of American Legion Post 160, Delhi. He served as past president of the Evergreen Cemetery Association and was a member of the Delhi United Methodist Church.
David was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who loved helping others.
Survivors include his wife, Sharla; a son, Kip Smith and companion Jill Ford of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Keelee (Marty) Gadient of Cascade; grandchildren, Tyler and Dylan Smith, Shayne (Dezi) Smith and Hannah Gadient; great-grand-children, Talyn, Aluxzis and Lynk Smith; a brother, Marlin Smith of Franklin, Tenn.; an aunt, Pauline Sweaney Kehoe and Jerry; and numerous nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Margaret Anderson.
