David Schoenbeck, 68, died Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at his home following a sudden illness. Memorial services will be 5 p.m. Monday, May 19, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, where friends may call after 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
Surviving are two children, Kerri (Father John) Abraham and Jason (Andrea) Schoenbeck, both of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Melvin and Robert; and two sisters, Myra Oltmann and Joyce Stearns.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Leland; and a sister, Leila.
David George Schoenbeck was born May 18, 1946, in Jesup, Iowa, the son of Albert and Marie B. Wiesender Schoenbeck. Dave graduated from the Monticello Community Schools in 1964. He started in his life's work in the auto body repair business with Glenn Adams. Dave married Pamela Otten in April 1970. He later taught auto body repair at the Iowa Men's Reformatory in Anamosa. He retired Dec. 26, 2003.
His hobby for many years was working on the pit crew for Tom Hughes Racing. Dave was an avid Iowa Hawkeye basketball and football fan.
His fantastic sense of humor and wit will be greatly missed.
