David was born on July 19, 1944, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Russell and Helen (Smith) Reed. At the age of 11, David developed an interest in lumber with his father. This interest would have a major role in his career path. He graduated from Springville High School. David attended Iowa State University and majored in architecture and engineering. He was united in marriage to Nancy Thompson on May 29, 1968, in Moline, Ill. David was owner, operator and partner of Re Vos Wel Truss & Lumber in Marion, Iowa. Together with his partners, he proudly ran the business for 47 years. He and Nancy also own the Dairy Queen in Marion, much to the delight of his grandchildren.
Dave enjoyed golfing, drawing up blueprints, traveling with Nancy, and was especially skilled at building additions for friends and family. But his greatest love was spending time with family, especially his many grandchildren. Times with family and friends were very meaningful to Dave. He could always be counted on to do the right thing in every situation, helping people without having to be asked. Dave was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many.
David is survived by his loving spouse of 53 years, Nancy of Marion, Iowa; six children, Kerry Tischer of Fairfax, Iowa, Carl Tischer of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Tammy (Kevin) Kopesky of Marion, Iowa, Michelle (Mike) Woode of Marion, Iowa, Todd (Shanan) Reed of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Chris (Kim) Reed of Marion, Iowa; 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four (with No. 5 on the way) great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Linda Wohletz of Spokane, Wash., and Janet (Ron) Van Hoeck of Hiawatha, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Miller and Donna Wharton; as well as many loving nieces, nephews and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by parents, Russell and Helen Reed; in-laws, Fred and Zona Thompson; a sister, Meredith Corporon; a grandson, Nate Justice; three brothers-in-law; and two nephews.
