David Allen Nelson, 72, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Monday, May 16, 2016, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Memorial Gathering: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 26, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine; children, Christine (Geoff) Garrett of Cedar Rapids and Jayson Nelson of North Liberty; grandchild, Sydney Garrett of Cedar Rapids; siblings, Donald (Susan) Nelson of Decorah, Richard (Vicky) Nelson of Broomfield, Colo., Randi (Buddy) Weaver of Lucas, Texas, and Suzi Nelson of Frisco, Texas; and brother-in-law, Jan Ryden of Hampton, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sandy Ryden.
Dave was born on July 23, 1943, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Elmer and Sylvia (Emery) Nelson. He was united in marriage to Elaine Hageman in Monticello, Iowa, on Dec. 23, 1972. Dave worked at in the graphics department of Rockwell Collins starting as a pressman and then becoming the lead person in the pressroom and bindery. He retired from Rockwell in 1998, after working there for 38 years. Dave enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and playing pool. Dave was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 2272.
Dave will be greatly missed. He was a loving husband, father, brother and friend to all that knew him. Dave donated his body to the University of Iowa.
A memorial fund has been established.
