David "Minnesota Dave" McClure, 51, of Marion, passed away peacefully in his home Thursday, July 19, 2018. A parish vigil service will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 22, 2018, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Following the vigil service, the family will greet friends until 3 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Monday,
July 23, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion, conducted by Father Mark Kwenin. The family will also greet friends one hour prior to Mass at the church. Inurnment immediately following Mass at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Dave was born May 20, 1967, in Oak Park, Ill., the son of David and Julie (Ware) McClure. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1985 and received his degree from Mount Mercy College in 1989. Dave married Laura Weber on Aug. 24, 1991, in Dyersville. She passed away April 4, 2017. He was employed at St. Luke's Hospital for many years in the shipping and receiving department. Dave was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion, and the Eastern Iowa Aquarium Association. He also volunteered at the Cedar Valley Humane Society. Dave was an outdoorsman who enjoyed camping and fishing. He also was an avid hobbyist, had several fish aquariums and raised fish. Dave's favorite quote was "You can't catch fish if your line isn't in the water." - Butch Furtman
David is survived by his son, Joshua McClure of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Katherine "Katie" McClure of Marion; mother, Julie McClure of Mason City; brother, Dan McClure of Frisco, Texas; aunts, Linda (Sumpter) Logan of Southlake, Texas, and Mandy (Ron) Klezek of Palatine, Ill.; three cousins, Molly, Amy and Nicholas; mother-in-law, Mary Weber of Dyersville; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Jeanne (Al) Kluesner of Dubuque, Ann (Dale) Thier of Cedar Rapids, Joan Weber of Dubuque, Marilyn (Michael) Mootz of Waterloo, the Rev. Mark Weber SVD of Chicago, Ill., and Michael Weber of Worthington, Iowa.
David was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Weber McClure; father, David McClure II; and son Joshua's fiancee, Tiffani Novreske.
A memorial fund has been established in David's memory.
