Monticello
David C. "Merf" Merfeld, 64, of Monticello, Iowa, passed away Sunday, March 28, 2021, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello. Visitation will continue from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, prior to funeral services. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 31, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Paul Baldwin will officiate.
Dave was born Oct. 24, 1956, in Monticello, Iowa, the son of Carl and Peggy (Lewis) Merfeld. He graduated from Monticello High School in 1975. He was a man of many talents, working several different jobs. He worked for Welter Storage for over 20 years.
Merf had a passion for sports, playing them all growing up and watching them later in life. He was a fan of the New York Yankees and Iowa Hawkeyes. He was most "heart happy," with his son, Nathan. Family was very important to Dave, he considered his many nieces and nephews as his own, giving each of them special nicknames. He truly celebrated a good life with family, friends and music.
Survivors include a son, Nathan Miller; siblings, Dan (Lynn) Merfeld, Amy (Dave Johnson) Bartels, Brad (Tanda Foster) Merfeld and Gregg Merfeld, all of Monticello; and many nieces, nephews and extended relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Wade Merfeld; a sister-in-law, Peg Merfeld; a brother-in-law, Roger Bartels; and a great-nephew, Justis Curry.
