David Matthew Leach, age 57, of Cedar Rapids, IA, passed away at his home on Monday, January 27, 2025.
A gathering of family and friends will take place on Friday April 11, 2025 from 5:00-6:30 pm at Cedar Memorial Park Family Center located at 4200 1st Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402. Internment is in Cedar Memorial Garden of Last Supper.
David was born on December 30, 1967, in Cedar Rapids, IA. He was the son of the late Gary Edwin and Dolores (Klouda) Leach. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving proudly in the Persian Gulf during Desert Shield/Desert Storm.
On his return to Iowa, David became a Paramedic serving the citizens of Cedar Rapids with Area Ambulance Service as well as with other agencies in Eastern Iowa including many years as a volunteer with Center Point Ambulance Service.
David loved to fish and camp and many will have fond memories of times shared around a campfire with a couple of beers, telling a story or two.
Those left to cherish David’s memory are his son, John Leach, of Alburnett, IA; his stepson, Anthony (Taylor Koranda) Millang, of Cedar Rapids, IA; his sister, Julie (Anton) Petrzelka, of Cedar Rapids, IA; his former wife, Brenda Leach, of Alburnett, IA; a nephew, Geo (Chaelor) Hunter, of Draper, UT; a niece, Meghan (Leif) Zalewski, of Cedar Rapids, IA; his aunt Elaine (Terry) Moore of Marion, IA; his aunt Nancy Ochiltree, of Cedar Rapids, IA, cousins, and a great-nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and left behind a beloved cat ‘Babygirl’ who is now cared for by a close friend.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Freedom Foundation in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to continue their mission of caring for Veterans in need.
