David LeRoy Barta, 80, passed away February 18, 2024. A Celebration of David’s Life will be held at 11:30 a.m., Sunday, February 25, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. A visitation will be held beginning at 10:00. A private burial will be at Czech National Cemetery.
David is survived by his children, Jade (Allison) Barta and Mindy (David) Sorg; grandchildren, Emma, Carlie and Landon Sorg; sister, Beverly Sheely; and nephew, Michael (Eileen) Sheely. He was preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Ann Barta.
David was born September 26, 1943, to Felix and Ann Barta. He was a 1962 graduate of Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids.
At the age of 18, David purchased a chemical franchise, Chem-Mark, which later became Energy Mizer Systems. Proud of his Czech heritage, it was natural that after 20 successful years of building the business, that he purchased a brick building on 16th Avenue in the center of Czech Village, where he continued to lead Energy Mizer Systems until he retired in 2006. The building still bears the Barta name on the entry.
During retirement David enjoyed taking trips with his family, spending time in his yard, entertaining friends and family at his pool, and walks and truck rides with his beloved dog, Pupek. David cherished his many friends, spending early mornings at breakfast and afternoon drinks together at their favorite local establishments.
David was also an avid collector of Lionel Trains - a passion that started with his first train set as a child.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cedar Valley Humane Society. Online condolences may be directed to the family at www.cedarmemorial.com under Obituaries.
