David Leigh Potter
Anamosa
David, 76, of Anamosa, passed away peacefully at an Iowa City nursing home on April 17, 2025. Born in Anamosa, Iowa, on July 23, 1948. Dave was a veteran, and was a proud Iowan whose life was shaped by craftsmanship, community, and deep affection for the simple joys of life.
A master furniture maker, Dave dedicated his life to woodworking. He was known for his precision, artistry, and integrity, building cabinets and custom pieces for professionals across the region. His work was featured in a beloved storefront, The Iowa Craftsman, in the lower portion of Lindale Mall in Cedar Rapids, where many came to admire the skill of a true craftsman.
Dave's passions extended far beyond the workshop. He loved fishing, biking, dancing, and was a talented pool player who rarely lost a match. He cherished time outdoors, especially at his Stone City cabin, and found comfort in the companionship of his cat.
Dave is survived by his brother Gene Potter (Carol) of Camden, AL, his sister Nancy Hainey (Robert) of Vinton, IA, several nieces, a nephew, and a helpful friend, Jamie Rosauer.
Dave was preceded in death by his father, Ben Potter, his mother, Marilyn Potter, and his sister, Dixie Wolfe.
