David Lee White, 77, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2025. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 14, 2025, at Hope Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, with Pastor Rhea Evanson officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Elkader East Side Cemetery in Elkader.
David was born November 4, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Ned and Ardis (Nelsen) White. He grew up on the family farm in Walker, Iowa, before they relocated to Elkader, Iowa. He graduated from Central High School in Elkader in 1966, and soon after enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he was stationed in Sunnyvale, California. After his service, he worked in California for a time before returning to Elkader.
In 1970, David relocated to the Cedar Rapids area and, in 1972, began his career at Rockwell Collins, where he worked until his retirement in 2010. On May 19, 1979, he married Linda Lee Lamprecht in Elkader. A proud member of the Marion American Legion Post 298, the Cedar Rapids Gun Club, and the National Rifle Association, David was passionate about the outdoors. Hunting and fishing in Elkader were among his greatest joys, and it was there that he earned the nickname 'Posum' among friends.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Linda White of Marion; children, Kevin (Laura) Frazier of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Jennifer (Rob) Cook of Houston, Texas; mother, Ardis White of Elkader; three grandchildren, Bode Frazier, Avery and Anabelle Cook; and sister, Kristin (David) Hoyt of Minnetonka, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ned White.
