David Lee Foster, 74, passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at his home. A celebration of David's life will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. with a memorial service being held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, April 11, at the VFW Post 788 at 3240 Southgate Place SW in Cedar Rapids. All guests are respectfully requested to wear a face mask and practice social distancing. A private burial will be held at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, Iowa, at a later date.
David Lee Foster was born on Jan. 26, 1947, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Harry and Dorothy (Casteel) Foster. He graduated from Iowa Valley High School in Marengo, Iowa. David served in the U.S Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he was employed by Western Electric installing phone switching systems throughout the United States. David was united in marriage to Nancy Miller on May 6, 1972, in Marion, Iowa. He was employed in copy system repairs at Office Enterprises and Cedar Rapids Photo Copy, both of Cedar Rapids. David was a member of the VFW Post 788, Marion American Legion Post 298, Marine Corps League and Sons of American Revolution. He was a licensed amateur radio operator.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his siblings, Julia Foster of Marengo, Iowa, Alice (Bob) Weber of Jesup, Iowa, Harry (Wendy) Foster of Cedar Rapids, Lori Foster (Dennis Ades) of Springville, Iowa, and Amy Foster of Cedar Rapids; special friends, Loren Deetz and Terri Deetz of Iowa City, Iowa and Sandra (Rick) Thorington of Cedar Rapids; and many loving nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and sister, Martha (Dennis) Paul.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the VFW Post 788 of Cedar Rapids at 3240 Southgate Place SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the American Legion Post 298 at 625 31st Street, or a charity of the donor's choice.
