David Lowell English, 85, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2023, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. In agreement with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
David was born on Oct. 5, 1937, in Ryan, Iowa, the son of Leo and Helen (Bushnell) English. He was a 1956 graduate of Immaculate Conception High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. On Dec. 27, 1958, David was united in marriage to Mary Carolyn Balik, at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. To this union, two children were born, Joni and Christopher. David was a carpenter, home builder, and Supervisor at Rinderknecht Construction, retiring in 2006. He was a member of St. Pius Catholic Church and the local Carpenter’s Union. David was a simple man who enjoyed restoring cars, furniture making, and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes sports. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
David is survived and lovingly remembered by his two children, Joni (Bret) Throlson of Marion, and Christopher (Jeri) English of Somerset, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Jason Throlson, Cory English, and Austin English; and one sister, Beverlee Valant.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; and brother, Mark English.
