David “J” Hudson, 77, of Lisbon passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, after suffering a very short illness
David was a wonderful dad, father-in-law, brother, grandpa, great-grandpa, and friend to all he met.
He was a big hunter with his brothers and son when he was younger and antiqued with his wife, but later in life he loved to watch his grandchildren in their many sporting events from very young to college sports. He loved watching college sports with his son, and he was a huge Iowa Hawkeye fan. He loved putting together big boxes of “treasures” for his great-grandchildren and enjoyed any time spent with family. He was one of eleven children so there was always a lot of family time to enjoy.
He enjoyed going to different sales and auctions and always loved a great deal. He also loved hanging out at our body shop with his son and enjoyed a good pour of Scotch.
David served in the United States Navy until his honorable discharge in 1969. He also retired from the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He was known for his big 4th of July fireworks displays.
David is survived by his son, David (Jan) Hudson of Lisbon; grandchildren, Thaddeus Hudson of Lisbon, Clayton (Jayeden) Hudson of Rowley, Tawnie Hudson of Lisbon, Dustin (Bri), Grace McAfee of Marion, Blake (Kathleen) Evangeline, and Hayden McAfee of Wisconsin; sisters, Chris Brown of Springville, Penny (Bron) Avila of Illinois, Donna Hudson of Springville, Ginger Hudson, Theresa of Cedar Rapids; brothers Dennis Hudson of Florida, Mike Hudson of Springville, and Merv (Sharon) Hudson of Springville; very good friend, Virginia, of Warsaw; many beloved nieces and nephews; and Brandon, Allie, and Kate Hudson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Donna Hudson; brother, Edward; sisters, LuAnn and Debbie; first wife, Ronda, mother of David Brian, and second wife, Melinda.
He was a huge part of our lives on a daily basis. Life will definitely be changed and he will forever be greatly missed.
