David Colvard Gregory, 67, of Marion, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017, in his home. Private family services and burial took place.
Survivors include his sisters, Mary (Craig) Johnson of Sherwood, Ore., and Nancy (Arlin) Sorensen of Harlan, Iowa,
and their families.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Luther David and Louella Gregory of Greentop, Mo., and Quincy E. and Gilie Belle Colvard of North Carolina; and his parents, Marvin Lewis and Mildred Louise Colvard Gregory of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Greentop, Mo.
After spending the first 12 years of his life in Greentop, David Colvard Gregory moved with his family to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from Washington High School, attended Iowa State University and Kirkwood Community College, then later settled in Marion, Iowa.
Dave highly valued his cousins, niece, nephews and extended family. He was a voracious reader and cared deeply about the world and those who lived around him. He held a variety of jobs over the years, recently describing himself as "retired." Letters from David regularly showed up on the editorial page. He based personal decisions on how it might affect the environment, and was known for his strong sense of social justice.
