David Franklin, 65, of Covington, died unexpectedly at his home on Monday, May 22, 2017. Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Teahen Funeral Home by Chaplain Brian Reeves. Friends may visit with the family from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
David is survived by his wife, Carol; daughter, Heidi; son, Dan; grandchild, Breah Franklin-Scheidt, all of Cedar Rapids; mother, Thelma of Afton; three sisters, Jaynee Wolfe of Lincoln, Neb., Patricia Sheldon of Shellsburg and Amy Kiburz of Afton; and four brothers, John of Des Moines, Steven of Marion, Michael of Lancaster, Calif., and Jerry of DePere, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his father, John L. Franklin.
David Francis Franklin was born June 20, 1951, in Des Moines, the son of John and Thelma Vanderhoof Franklin. He graduated from Kennedy High School in 1969 and received a bachelor's degree from Iowa State University in 1974. He was a member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. On Feb. 27, 1972, he married Carol Ann Jankovic in Cedar Rapids. He taught at Harding Middle School and coached athletics at both Harding and Kennedy High School. After 33 years of teaching, David retired in 2007.
David was a past member of the Cedar Rapids Bassmasters and was an avid and knowledgeable outdoorsman.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family to be distributed later.
