David Earle Leonard, 81, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, March 12, 2018, at Living Center West in Cedar Rapids. Funeral service: 10 a.m. Saturday, March 17, at Sharon United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids, with visitation one hour prior to service. Officiating: Pastor Kevin Moore. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
David was born June 29, 1936, the son of Earle and Hazel (Usher) Leonard, in Cedar Rapids. He was married to Doris Coleman on June 14, 1957, in Cedar Rapids. They were able to celebrate 60 years together. David served as lieutenant for the Cedar Rapids Fire Department for over 30 years. He was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church, where he was active in Bible study and choir.
David enjoyed many hobbies, including creating greeting cards on the computer, dinner with friends and traveling. One of the most memorable trips was David and Doris' 50th anniversary trip to Branson, Mo., with their family. More than anything, David loved spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Leonard; two sons, Craig (Kim) Leonard and Chris (Margie) Leonard; five grandchildren, Michael (Jessica), Gabe, Abby (Preston) West, Nick and Andrew; in-laws, Dean and Alice Stegman, Cecil and Nancy Ellison and Bob and Jan Coleman; and many special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and infant sister, Joyce.
Memorials may be directed to the family to be given to a charitable cause in David's name.
