David “Dave” Lumir Pisney, 74, of Atkins, Iowa, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2022, in Mesa, Ariz. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at Good News Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids, with Dr. Dave T. Smith presiding. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. There will be a reception at the church following burial
Dave was born on June 30, 1948, in Cedar Rapids, the first born of Lumir and Mary Pisney. He married Pat Bird on Aug. 17, 1968. He only had three jobs in his life: Farm Market/Hy-Vee Food Stores, Amana Society Bakery and Dairy Queen. Dave spent almost 50 years in DQ; he loved not only the business, but especially his employees and customers. He enjoyed traveling, having visited 48 states, Europe and Africa. He also enjoyed fishing on the Mississippi River with friends and family.
He was especially proud of his four children, 10 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Dave accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior in 1978 and was a member of Good News Baptist Church.
He is survived by Pat, his wife of 54 years; son, Mike (Sarah) Pisney of Greenville, Texas; son, Jeff (Karen) Pishney of Modesto, Calif.; son, Matt (Paula) Pisney of Marshalltown, Iowa; daughter, Sarah Hyska (Shawn) of Lynchburg, Va.; grandchildren, Bethany (Josh) Young, Bradley (Liza) Pisney, Hayden Pishney, Allie Pishney, Ethan Pisney, Everett Pishney, Isaiah Pisney, Noah Pisney, Eli Pisney and Eliana Hyska; great-granddaughter, Ellie Young; and sister, Carol (Larry) Ross.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Nancy.
