DAVID "DAVE" A. CRISMAN
Solon
David "Dave" A. Crisman, 69, of Solon, died suddenly on Sunday, May 15, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Celebration of Life services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 20, at the Shueyville United Methodist Church. The service will be performed by Pastor Craig Peters with burial to follow at Sulek Cemetery near Shueyville. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Brosh Chapel, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, Cedar Rapids.
David Allen was born April 12, 1947, in Osage, the son of Marion "Boots" and Evelyn Mae (Wheeler) Crisman. Dave was united in marriage to Renee Mae Tovson on Feb. 23, 1969, in Decorah. Together they had two daughters, Sara and Alison. Dave was later united in marriage to Carol Mae Goddard on Dec. 9, 1995, in Shueyville. He worked for 34 years in the College Community School District as a teacher and coach and the last 12 as the principal of Prairie Middle School, where he retired in 2004.
Dave helped coach the Prairie Hawk football team to a state championship in 1981. He served on the Solon school board and was president there where he was instrumental in establishing the Dollars for Scholars program. He was a finalist for State Middle School Principal of the Year. He was active at the Shueyville United Methodist Church where he served on the board of the preschool program, the finance team and chaired the church council.
Dave enjoyed golfing, bowling, Sudoku, fishing, woodworking, photography, yard work, playing cards, traveling, attending many grandchildren functions, cheering for the Hawkeyes and spending time with his family. There was nothing that made him happier than he and Carol spending time with their children and grandchildren. Whether they were taking a boat ride around the pond, fishing off the dock, building bird houses in his shop, playing cards, golfing or petting frogs, his grandchildren were his proudest accomplishment. He loved them more than anything.
Dave is survived by his wife, Carol; two daughters, Sara (Christopher) Shockey of Freeport, Ill., and Alison Crisman (Christopher Humphrey) of Machesney Park, Ill.; two stepchildren, Mike (Lori) Goins of Nichols and Jennifer Shiek of Ankeny; 10 grandchildren, Payton, Carter and Maddux Shockey, Simon and Keira Humphrey, Shane Clinton (Trish Heinz), Chelsea Clinton, Ally Goins, Josh O'Connor and Jackson Shiek; and two great-grandchildren, Skyann Heinz and Hunter Clinton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Judy Crisman.
Memorials may be directed to the Shueyville United Methodist Church or the College Community School Foundation in his name.
