David E. Craig, 93, of Center Point, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at Meadowview Assisted Living Center, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, by Pastor John Caughron. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, at the funeral home. Burial: Center Point Cemetery, Center Point.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Darlene; children, Daphne (Harold) Miller of Fairfax and Steven (Jean) Craig of Plymouth, Minn.; grandchildren, Nathan (Joanne) Craig, Nicole and fiance Alex, Natalie and Nicholas; sisters, Margaret Wood of Menomonie, Wis., and JoAnne (Leo) Havran of
Cedar Rapids; sister-in-law, Kathryn Craig of Hiawatha; and special friends, Nancy and Tom Krapfl of Center Point.
David was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Robert.
Born June 10, 1920, near Atkins, Iowa, David was the son of Edward and Johanna (Hahn) Craig. He graduated from Center Point High School in 1938.
On June 30, 1946, he was united in marriage to Darlene Squires at the Center Point United Methodist Church. David proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy 29th Battalion Seabees during World War II in the British Isles and Philippines. During the Korean conflict he served in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
From 1954 to 2005, David
and Darlene owned Craig's Appliance and Service.
David was a charter member of the Center Point Lions Club, a member of the Center Point Fire Department & Ambulance Service for 21 years, the Center Point American Legion for 66 years and served on the Center Point City Council for 16 years.
