David Graham Clemens passed away Sept. 11, 2014, in the hospice unit at St. Luke's Hospital of kidney disease. He was 82 years old.

David was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Nov. 30, 1931, the third of three children born to Fay William and Donna Graham Clemens. He grew up in Cedar Rapids, attending school here and graduated from Roosevelt High School in the spring class of 1950.

David was a student at Coe College when he was called into active service for the National Guard unit during the Korean War. He served for two years and was honorably discharged in 1953.

David and Marjorie Saunders were married Aug. 29, 1954, at First Methodist Church in Maquoketa. It was a marriage meant to last and they were able to spend a 60th anniversary together.

Except for 10 years in northern California, David always lived in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Chico State University in Chico, Calif., with a degree in education. Two sons were born in California, David and Daniel. The family returned to Cedar Rapids in 1965 and from that year through 1994, David was an industrial tech teacher at Jefferson High School.

Preceding David were his parents; as well as his sister, Jean Archer; and brother, John.

He is survived by his wife; sons; grandsons, Andrew, Matthew, Taylor and Jonathan; one great-grandson, Chase; and one great-granddaughter, Ryleigh. Also surviving are one sister-in-law, Peg Harder; and three brothers-in-law, Eugene Archer, Lloyd Saunders and Elmer Harder.

Per his wishes he will be cremated and his ashes laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery in a private family ceremony. A Celebration of Life will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where the family will greet friends from 1:30 p.m. until service time.
