Daugherty, William J.
William J. Daugherty, 80, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, following an extended illness. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with Fire Department Chaplain Phil Saunders presiding. Interment will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
William (Bill) was born Dec. 12, 1932, in Albia, Iowa, to Willie and Marie (Rouse) Daugherty. He graduated from Molton High School then served three years in the Army during the Korean conflict and was discharged as a supply sergeant. He was married Nov. 11, 1955, to Phyllis Paul. Bill joined the Fire Department in 1961 and retired in 1992 as district chief. Bill loved carpentry and devoted a lot of time helping his children and grandchildren with various projects.
Bill is survived by his wife, Phyllis of 57 years; son, Brian (Azam); and daughter, Robbie (Jeff); two grandchildren, Jeff and Shelly; five great-grandchildren, Bryant, Adam, Stephanie, Keira and Lexi; and three sisters, Eva Kriegermeier, Mary Mericle and Juanita Traxler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
Memorials may be given to Sharon United Methodist Church in Bill's name.
