Daryl Lawrence Schares, 65, died Monday, June 9, 2014, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. Services: 10 a.m. Friday, June 13, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fairbank, with Father Paul McManus officiating. Inurnment at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Fairbank. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 12, at Woods Funeral Home, Fairbank.
Survivors include his wife, Paula; two daughters, Jenny (Dan) Richards of Fairbank and Nicole (Pat) Reiher of Tripoli; three sons, Chris (Suzy) Schares of Cedar Falls, Aaron (Tara) Schares of Sumner and Jake (Corinne) Schares of Oelwein; 18 grandchildren; two brothers, Rick (Barb) Schares of Readlyn and Marty Schares of Fairbank; one sister, Jerilyn Schares of Cedar Falls; and three sisters and brothers-in-law, Karen Silver of Cedar Rapids and Gloria (Steve) Schropp of Parnell and John Wroten of Fairbank.
He was preceded in death by his
parents, Kenneth and Marlys Schares; his mother and father-in-law, Paul and Evie Oberheu; and a sister-in-law, Kathie Wroten.
Daryl was born Feb, 15, 1949, in Waterloo, to Kenneth Joseph and Marlys Mary Schmitz Schares. He graduated from Wapsie Valley High School in 1967. He married Paula Kay Oberheu on Sept. 12, 1970, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fairbank. Daryl was a welder at Deere & Co. in Waterloo for 34 years, retiring in 2009.
