Daryl E. Kern, 72, of Greenfield, Ind., formerly of Marion, Iowa, departed this life and joined his Savior and Lord Jesus Christ in Heaven on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Ind. The family will greet friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. on Friday, March 12, 2021, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. A funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. at the funeral home on Friday. Burial will follow at Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion. All guests are respectfully requested to wear a face mask and practice social distancing.
Daryl was born on June 18, 1948, in Lebanon, Ind., one of seven children to Caryl and Rosemary (Schenck) Kern. He graduated from Lebanon High School in Lebanon, Ind. On Dec. 9, 1978, Daryl was united in marriage to Gwendolen "Gwen" Fix. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force. Daryl worked as an engineer, specializing in metrology at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids. He was a devoted Christian with a very strong faith. Daryl enjoyed time with his family and riding his motorcycles. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Daryl is survived and lovingly remembered by his six children, Shannon (Kelly) Moyer, Jacqueline (Tony) Smith, Mary (Robert) Blangy, Bethanie Cosman (Josh), Daniel (Fawn) Kern and Natalie (Brandon) Jacobsen; 11 grandchildren, Carina Howe, Valerie Smith, Luke Blangy, Gwendolyn and Joshua Cosman, Zella Kern, and Lilly, Gabbie, Catie, Izzy and Madi Jacobsen; two great-grandchildren, Jase White and Bentley Howe; two brothers, Larry (Marsha) Kern and Garry (Sue) Kern; one sister, Janee Parker; two brothers-in-law, Sam and Dan Fix; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded into eternal life by his parents; wife, Gwendolen (Fix) Kern; one grandson, Jerryd Blangy; three siblings, Joanna Picket, Mary Wolmer and Robert Kern; and brother-in-law, Rick Parker.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Daryl's memory may be directed to the American Heart Association.
A celebration of Daryl's life is being planned for a later date in Indiana. Myers Mortuary in Lebanon, Ind., and Murdoch Funeral Homes & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa, both have been entrusted with his arrangements.
