Darwin Eugene Keegan, 79, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015, at the Hiawatha Care Center in Hiawatha. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, with a visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m., at Lovely Lane United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul and the Rev. Gayle Wilcox officiating. Burial will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Darwin E. Keegan was born Nov. 19, 1935, to Earl and Mary (Heffernan) Keegan in Ryan, Iowa. Darwin graduated from Olin High School in 1954. He was united in marriage to Ruby "Rae" McCammant on Dec. 29, 1954, in Monticello, Iowa. Darwin had a successful career in the trucking industry. He worked for Ruan Transportation (17 years), All State Leasing and Transport America for more than 30 years.
Darwin lived in Forest Lake, Minn., for 33 years until he retired and moved back to Cedar Rapids. Darwin was a member of Lovely Lane United Methodist Church. He enjoyed RV camping, fishing, boating, playing cards, tractorcade, golfing, cooking in the cafeteria for students at the church and at Lagoons RV Resort in Rockport, Texas, but he especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be forever remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Rae; children, Darla (Ron) Kohl of San Antonio, Texas, Daniel (Christine) Keegan of Riviera Beach, Fla., and Donna Kinsman of Woodstock, Ga.; his brother, Duane (Jeanie) Keegan of Anamosa; eight grandchildren, Matthew Kohl, Ashley Stacer, Jennifer Fischer, Mollie Kinsman, Sarah Good, Austyn Kelly, Samuel Kinsman and Rylee Keegan; four great-grandchildren; several loving nieces and nephews; and a special companion dog, Lizzie.
Darwin was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Earl Keegan Jr.; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Keegan; and nephew, Jeff Keegan.
