Darrow, Donald R.
Donald R. Darrow, 73, of Waterloo, died Sunday, March 17, 2013, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.
He was born Oct. 15, 1939, in Anamosa, Iowa, the son of Richard Levi and Erma Lucille (Shoop) Darrow. Don married Carmen Robertson on Aug. 14, 1960, in Olin, Iowa, and they later divorced. He graduated from Olin High School in 1956, received both his B.A. and M.A. from the University of Northern Iowa, and his PhD. From Ohio State University. Don served in the Army Reserve and was an instructor for two years at Illinois State University in Normal. Before his retirement, Don was an associate professor of Industrial Technology Education at the University of Northern Iowa for many years. He was a member of the Cedar Falls Kiwanis Club, St. Timothy's United Methodist Church, Cedar Falls and First Congregational United Church of Christ, Waterloo.
Survivors include three sons, David (Maura) Darrow of Dayton, Ohio, James Darrow of Bettendorf, and Daniel Darrow of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; a daughter, Carla (Darrell) Long of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Alexandra Darrow, Mason and Mallory Long and Alec, Mitchell and Claire Darrow; and a sister, Phyllis (Harley) Steenhoek of Mingo.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Joan Darrow.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Waterloo, with inurnment at Fairview Cemetery, Cedar Falls, at a later date. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 Tuesday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls.
A memorial fund will be established at a later date.
