Darrell West, 88, of Onslow passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at Accura HealthCare of Cascade.
A visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 pm on Friday, December 20, 2024, at Dawson Funeral Services in Wyoming. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 21 at the Wyoming Methodist Church. Burial will be at the South Mineral Cemetery.
Darrell was born on May 6, 1936, in Anamosa to Otis and Ruth (Tharp) West. He graduated from Onslow High School. He faithfully and honorably served his country in the United States Army. On February 9, 1957, he was united in marriage to the love of his life Doris Jess at the United Methodist Church in Miles. Darrell worked as a 2nd-shift supervisor for over 29 years at Georgia Pacific in Monticello. He also farmed in Jones County. When he was younger, he built a barn by hand that would hold 160 cows. He is a member of the Wyoming Methodist Church. Darrell was a proud member of the Wyoming Post #259 of the American Legion. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs fan.
Those left to cherish his memory are his two daughters; Cheryl (Craig) Haker of Anamosa, Lori West of Monmouth, three grandchildren; Race, Kase (Maria) and Chase; two great-grandchildren, Josephine and Milo Haker; sister-in-law Elgene West; and a close nephew Randy West.
He is preceded in death by his parents, five sisters: Nancy, Jean, Ruth, Velma, Mary Ellen, four brothers: Hank, Bill, Bob, Roy Lee and his wife Doris.
