He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dolores Wittlief; and son-in-law, Douglas Cook.
Darrell was born Nov. 24, 1931, near St. Charles, Minn., the second child of Norval and Florence (Connaughty) Sanden. He graduated from St. Charles High School in 1949 and then attended Dunwoody Technical School. In 1955, Darrell went to Cedar Rapids and worked for Collins Radio as a test technician, retiring from there after 33 years of service. He was always proud that he got to work on communications for the Apollo moon modules.
On April 4, 1959, he was united in marriage to Deanna Lyon in Cedar Rapids. They met on a blind date in 1957 after being introduced by friends, Marjorie and Richard Petersen. Darrell attended King of Kings Lutheran Church. He loved golfing, painting, fishing, playing steel guitar and restoring his 1963 Pontiac. Darrell and Deanna enjoyed wintering in Mesa, Ariz., for 16 years. He loved his family so much and was so proud of them.
We wish to thank all the nurses at UnityPoint-St. Luke's Hospice that took such good care of Darrell.
