DARRELL ALDEN LOAN

On Friday, Oct. 8, 2021, Darrell Alden Loan, 92, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away at the age of 92, in Naples, Fla. Born Aug. 6, 1929, to Charlie and Martha Loan in Iowa City, Iowa, He was a graduate of the University of Iowa ,where he obtained an engineering degree in 1957. Upon graduation, Darrell joined the U.S. Army, where he served as a tank commander. Following his service, Darrell began his career for NASA as an aeronautical engineer. Returning to Iowa, Darrell used his knowledge and entrepreneurial aspirations to start and operate two successful businesses. Darrell used his free time enjoying a plethora of interests and hobbies including University of Iowa athletics, horse races, stock car races, thrill seeking, the company of friends, hosting parties, firework and laughter.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Martha Loan; and sister, Gwendolyn Burnett.
He is survived by his three children, Michael (Marilyn) Loan, Debra (Douglas) Sorensen and Kathy (Reginald) Loan-Koranda. Darrell is also survived by six grandchildren, Aaron (Elise) Loan, Kandice (Jason) Hamilton, Kourtney (Richard) Tilden, Sarah (Chris) Nolte, Emily (Eric) Balsman and Dane (Natalie) Sorensen; and eight great-grandchildren. Darrell is also survived by his brother, Ronald (Rosanne) Loan; and former wife, Audrey Loan.
A celebration of life will be planned in his honor.
