Darlene Willson, 78, passed away Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at Manor Care in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories in Cedar Rapids, with the Rev. Carol Kress presiding. There will be a reception following the service for family and friends.
Darlene was born Dec. 4, 1935, to Riley and Hulda Wicks in Decorah, Iowa. She graduated from Decorah High School. Darlene married Charles Willson on March 17, 1956, at Immaculate Conception Church in Cedar Rapids. Darlene worked for Rockwell Collins as an assembler for many years.
Darlene is survived by her son, Eugene (Brenda) Willson of Whittier; daughter, Beverly (Pete) Verteiko of Cedar Rapids; sister, Dorthy Evjan of Decorah; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; one brother, Merrill; and daughters, Valerie French and Margie Willson Ette.
Darlene was an avid fisherman, a longtime member of Eagles Aerie No. 2272, the Marion Legion Post 298 and the Methodist Church in Decorah.
