Darlene Merle Sweet, 83,
of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, June 4, 2017, at UnityPoint-St. Luke's Hospital. Per her request, there will be no services or visitation. Cremation rites were performed by Iowa Cremation.
Survivors include her two daughters, Kim (Mark) Pond of Fort Worth, Texas, and Rose (William) Balk of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, John (Stacy) Perez of Van Horne and Shane (Brittany) Pond and Sierra Pond, all of Fort Worth; five great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; as well as many extended family members.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert William "Bob" Sweet, in 2016; and sister, Elaine Kew.
Darlene was born May 10, 1934, in Cass Township, Iowa, the daughter of Verni and Loretta Lembke. She married Robert Sweet on May 20, 1952, in New Hampton. They were married for 64 years. Darlene worked at home raising her two daughters. She was a member of the Cedar Valley Rock and Gem Society.
Memorial donations in Darlene's name may be given to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
