DARLENE MAE (FANKHAUSER) STRAIN
Tipton
Darlene Mae (Fankhauser) Strain, 78, of Portland, Ore., formerly of Tipton, passed away Thursday, July 5, 2018, at 8:22 a.m., at Adventist Hospital after complications from hip surgery. Graveside memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at Tipton Masonic Cemetery with the Rev. Brian Wilkins officiating.

Darlene was born Nov. 30, 1939, in Cedar Rapids, the third daughter of Ken and Velma (Hulshizer) Fankhauser. She was reared and educated in Tipton and graduated from Tipton High School, Class of 1958. She married Edgar Light on Aug. 3, 1958, in Tipton, and raised three children in Cedar Rapids, Sheila, Kevin and Glenda. She married Norman Strain in 1977 and moved to Portland in 1980, where she continued to live and work until her passing.
Darlene is survived by her three children, Sheila Light, Kevin Light and his wife, Sylvia, and Glenda Light; her seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; sister, Phyl Britcher of Cedar Rapids; and Bill Fankhauser and wife, Erleen, of Tipton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands and her sister, Betty Fankhauser.
