Darlene M. (Buline) Schott, 91, a longtime resident of the Hills area, died peacefully Saturday. Sept. 11, 2021, at Mercy Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 17, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hills. Burial will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Visitation will be held from
4 to 7 p.m. Thursday on the lawn next to St. Joseph Catholic Church, where a rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous, www.campcourageous.org; Reach For Your Potentialm www.rfyp.org; or Iowa City Hospice, www.iowacityhospice.org.
Due to the pandemic masks will be available.
Darlene was born June 8, 1930, the daughter of James and Ella (Fouchek) Buline. She was raised on the family farm south of Lone Tree and was a 1949 graduate of Lone Tree High School. Darlene was united in marriage to John "Bud" Schott on Aug. 20, 1949, at St. Mary's Church in Lone Tree.
Darlene was a member of St. Joseph Church, St. Joseph Altar and Rosary Society, the Hills Red Ruby Hat Club and the Hills Town and Country Club. She was a volunteer at Atrium Village and for many years was a
4-H Leader.
Darlene loved to work in the field with her husband. She enjoyed her vegetable and flower gardens and time spent canning the produce from her garden. She made quilts for her grandchildren and sewed many baby receiving blankets for family and friends. Being a farm wife, mom and grandma was the joy of her life. You were always welcome in her kitchen, where you could find a good meal and homemade pie and cookies. Darlene treasured the time spent with her family and was ready at a moment's notice to jump in the car and attend children and grandchildren's activities or babysit if needed. She enjoyed traveling and taking trips with the Hill's Bank Friends Club.
Her family includes her four children, Denise (Steve) Moses of Solon, Mary (Tim) Ruth of Riverside, Larry (Susan) Schott of Riverside and Dean Schott (Kate Halsch) of Iowa City; grandchildren, Matt Moses, Becky (Shane) Simon, Mark (Janeen) Moses, Luke (Megan) Moses, Laurie Ruth, Dan (Melissa) Ruth, David (Sherri) Schott, Thomas (Joslin) Schott, T.J. (Hannah) Schott, Ryan Schott and Natalie Schott, Owen (Shannon) Gerard, Nick Gerard and Trent Gerard; and great-grandchildren, Logan and Leslie Moses, Kobe, Briley and Taylor Simon, Madelyn, Grant and Amelia Moses, Harper, Kendall and Barrett Moses, John and Lucy Ruth, Carter, Nolan and Paisley Schott, and Layne, Charlie, Davin and Bennett Schott, Beau and McKenna Gerard.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her son, Tony; her parents; and siblings, Everett Buline, Ester Curtis, James Buline, Pearl Buline and Irene Buline.
