Darlene R. Blankenburg, Age 100, passed away at Terrance Glen in Marion, on Saturday, August 17, 2024.
A Funeral Service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at 10:30 AM with Pastor John Albertson officiating. Interment to follow at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery-Garden of Tranquility.
Darlene is survived by her sister, Thelma Voetberg, grandson, Travis, daughter-in-law, Kathleen and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arley, two sons, Steven and Robert, two brothers, Robert and Kenneth, and a sister, Lois.
Darlene was born on May 14, 1924, in Wellsburg, Iowa. She was the daughter of the late Will W. and Anna (Wulf) Ross. She graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1942. She graduated from the University of Iowa in 1946 with a B.A. degree with an emphasis on nutrition. After serving a dietetic internship at New York Hospital, she served on the staff at that hospital. In 1952, she married Arley Blankenburg. She taught nutrition at the University of Illinois School of Nursing-Chicago and later at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, IA. She retired from St. Luke’s in 1986 after serving as a clinical dietitian for 20 years. She was a member of the American Dietetic Association and the Cedar Rapids Dietetic Association.
She volunteered at the Marion Food Pantry. She was an active charter member of Faith Lutheran Church.
