Darlene Nedra Wingfield Miller, 70, passed away Friday, Dec. 18, 2015. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, at Living Waters Kingdom Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Theodore V. Wingfield; half sisters, Erma Carr, Betty Ballew, and Lillian Hunt; and her half brother, Thomas Wingfield.
Darlene was born Aug. 5, 1945, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Thomas Wingfield and Celestia Nance Wingfield. She graduated from Jefferson High and then attended art school in Minneapolis.
Darlene returned to Cedar Rapids, where she married Stewart Dean. Her son, LaRoi, was born to this union. Several years after this marriage ended, Darlene married the Rev. Sterling Miller.
As a nontraditional student, Darlene was conferred the Bachelor of Arts degree from Mount Mercy College in 1981. She then taught in the public school system until her retirement.
She was an artist who sculpted and loved to paint. Many of her works had a religious theme and she felt "everyone is an artist." Darlene loved the Lord.
