Darlene Marie Fleming Nelson, 86, of Hiawatha, passed away on Monday, Dec. 27, 2021. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 31, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Interment will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Darlene was born on Feb. 14, 1935, in Iowa City, the daughter of Jesse and Helen (Brookner) Brundidge. She was united in marriage to Patrick H. Fleming on May 29, 1955, in Quincy, Ill. He preceded her in death in 1991. Darlene was united in marriage to William A. Nelson on Sept. 12, 2020, at Rompot Park in Cedar Rapids. Darlene was a homemaker, caring for her home and family. She enjoyed camping, flowers, and cooking. Darlene loved her children and grandchildren deeply and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her husband, William; son, Patrick Fleming Jr. of Cedar Rapids; daughters, Char Moran, Patty Spaulding and Ellen Rule, all of Colorado Springs, Colo.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sister, Irene Petersen of Cedar Rapids.
Preceding her in death were her parents; first husband, Patrick Sr.; grandson, Chad Rule; great-granddaughter, Jessica Pauline Tigen; and brothers, Jesse and Jack Brundidge.
