Darlene M. Meeks, 92, formerly of Belle Plaine, IA passed away March 17, 2024.
Darlene was born December 18, 1931 to William and Ella (Kenner) Musel in rural Chelsea, IA. She attended country school till 8th grade. On June 30, 1954, Darlene married Robert Meeks at Christ United Methodist Church in Belle Plaine. Together they lived on a farm in rural Belle Plaine, where Darlene raised their five children. In 2014 Darlene moved into Belle Plaine, before spending the last four years in Hiawatha.
Together with Robert they enjoyed meeting up with friends, dancing and going out to eat. Darlene was a great cook and baker, specializing in Kolaches and Houska’s. She loved providing for her family, making sure no one ever left her home empty handed.
Darlene had a green thumb, always able to get something to grow, from large gardens in which she did lots of canning to beautiful flowers surrounding her home.
To those who knew her she was an all-around nice lady, giving whatever she could. She was the rock her children could always count on, supporting them and being there when needed.
Darlene was a member of the Belle Plaine Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her children, Terry Meeks, Debra Meeks, Diane Berger, Denise Collum, and Deanna Sutphin; 9 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
Darlene is preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Robert (2007).
Private family services will take place, with burial at National Cemetery, Vining, IA. Memorials may be directed to the family. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.neuhausfuneralservice.com
