Darlene Leone Stuefen, 93, of Covington, passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at the Promise House in Hiawatha. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 2, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St., SW. Private family services will be in Cedar Memorial Cemetery.
Darlene was born April 27, 1929, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Earl and Grace (Stambaugh) Seltrecht. She graduated from Palo High School, class of 1947. Darlene was united in marriage to Lester Stuefen on June 21, 1955, in Kahoka, Mo. She loved being a homemaker, where she would bake and cook for her family. She enjoyed crocheting, feeding and watching birds, playing the banjo, singing, reading, bowling, following the Hawkeyes and Cubs and, most of all, spending time with her family, especially her grandsons.
Darlene is survived by her daughter, Kerri Stuefen (Tim Horn); her grandsons, Chase and Logan Hannen; her brother, Earl (Pat) Seltrecht; her sisters-in-law, Marlys Stuefen, Sandy Stuefen and Sis Turkington; as well as her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Les; her son, Norman Stuefen; her sister, Betty (Robert) Stuefen; and her brothers-in-law, Myron "Pug," Don Stuefen and Carl "Turk" Turkington.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
The family would thank all the staff at the Promise House. Darlene's time there was filled with love, where she became affectionately known as "PH Grandma." The family would also like to extend a special thank-you to Avalon Hospice team, especially Matt, Travis, Taylor and Cindy for their loving care of Darlene.
