Darlene L. Coppess, 91, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Sunday, July 17, 2022, at the Hallmark Care Center in Mount Vernon. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 20, at 10:30 a.m. at Stanwood Union Church with Pastor Ryan Roth-Klinck officiating. Burial will follow in the Stanwood Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. until service time.
Darlene was born Feb. 13, 1931, in Clarence, Iowa to Fred and Minnie (Ricklef) Schnipkoweit. She married Dale Coppess on March 26, 1950 in Tipton.
Darlene is survived by her husband, Dale; sister, Delores (Boyd) Hubb; sisters-in-law and brothers in-law, Barb Schnipkoweit, Joyce Schnipkoweit, Deanna Schnipkoweit, Doris (Dick) McAtee, Darrell (Joanne) Coppess and Darlene Flockhart; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Marnell (Jack) Dye, Marvell (Elmer) Harmel, Marilyn (Wayne) Biggs and Arline Schnipkoweit; brothers, Fred and Delmar Schnipkoweit; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Donald (Lulu Grace) Coppess, Donna Lou (Russ) Rhoads, Bob Flockhart and Delbert Coppess.
Darlene was a member of the Stanwood Union Church where she was very active in the Church Circle while also cooking for church dinners including the Lions Club. She was a dedicated farmwife and a member of the Farm Bureau Women. Darlene also worked part time in the past at the Cedar County Extension Service in Tipton and she enjoyed puzzles.
