Darlene Mae Hambright, 86, of Bennett, passed away Monday, Feb. 16, 2015, at the Cedar Manor Nursing Home in Tipton. Per Darlene's wishes, her body will be cremated. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Peace Church in Bennett. Following the celebration of life, a luncheon will be held at the Bennett Community Center.
Darlene is survived by her children, Holly (Tim) Howell of New Liberty and Phillip (Vicky) Hambright II of Wilton; grandchildren, Jeffrey VeDepo and Jaime Galvan; great-grand-children, Chelsea and McKenzie VeDepo and Isaiah and Karli Galvan; siblings, Monte Gaul of Tipton and Margery Grossen of Plymouth, Wis.; and loving stepchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Phillip Hambright, in 2011; and a brother, Richard Gaul.
Darlene Mae Hambright was born Nov. 1, 1928, to Ernest and Felma (Herring) Gaul in Tipton, Iowa. She graduated from Tipton High School and then earned a pre-professional certificate from UNI. Darlene married Phillip Eugene Hambright on Oct. 7, 1955, at First Presbyterian Church, Tipton. She taught grade school in the Cedar Rapids, Tipton and Bennett school districts. Darlene was a member of the Bennett Peace Church.
She enjoyed playing cards, traveling and going out to eat with family and friends. Darlene was a wonderful person who will be greatly missed by all of those who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Peace Church in Bennett and the Bennett American Legion Auxiliary.
