Darlene E. Hacker, 88, of Marengo, died Sunday, April 3, 2016, at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Marengo, with the Rev. Andrew Gray officiating. Burial: Marengo Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Marengo.
A memorial fund has been established.
Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is assisting the family with arrangements.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Ann (Allen) Mumby and Sandra (Dale) Folkmann of Marengo; two sons, Lee (Diane) Hacker of Jordan, Minn., and Steven (Debra) Hacker of Marengo; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Delphine Vander Hamm of Marengo; and a very special friend, Irene Schindler of Marengo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John, in 1989; a son, William, in 1970; and two brothers, Clellan and Eugene Vander Hamm.
Darlene was born July 18, 1927, in rural Ireton, Iowa, the daughter of Oscar and Anna Rassler Vander Hamm. She received her education in the rural Ireton schools and married John H. Hacker on Sept. 17, 1949, in Ireton. The couple made their home on her husband's family farm in rural Marengo.
