Darlene Blakey, 79, passed away on Friday, Feb. 12, 2021, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Private burial will take please at Oak Hill Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Darlene was born April 26, 1941, in Iowa City, Iowa. She was the first graduating class from George Washington Senior High School. Several years later, she joined in union with her forever love, Ronald on Nov. 5, 1960, and began their family.
Darlene worked a short time at Rockwell Collins and a local hospital, but spent the majority of her life devoted to her home. Darlene was a worldly woman with many talents. She enjoyed cooking, and was known for her delicious baked goods. She was an avid reader of all genres, and a collector of Archie Comics. She enjoyed dining out with family, and spending time with her grandchildren. She had great taste in music and movies, and always had a nickname for those she loved.
Darlene and her husband, Ronald, who she lovingly called, "The B," shared a very special life together. Darlene and Ron loved taking trips, and exploring the world together. They league bowled for over 20 years, and enjoyed spending time at local casinos. They were truly made for one another and he was the love of her life. The devotion they had for one another is something that could never be duplicated.
Darlene is survived by her husband, Ronald Blakey of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Michelle Roper and Marcy Blakey, both of Cedar Rapids; granddaughter, Ashley Turner; great-granddaughters, Natalie and Valerie of Cedar Rapids; grandson-in-law, Timothy Turner; brother, Raymond (Nancy Turner) of Roseville, Minn.; special dog companion named, Bailee; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Marjorie Davis; sister-in-law, Dorothy Blakey; and a special friend.
