Danskin, H. Eugene
H. Eugene Danskin, 92, of Marengo, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, at Marengo Memorial Hospital. Funeral services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, at First United Methodist Church, Marengo, with the Rev. Katie Dawson officiating. Burial will be in Marengo Cemetery. Visitation: noon until 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by two sons, David of Coralville and Jon and wife Julie of St. Paul, Minn.; and two grandchildren, Emma Danskin and Erik Danskin and wife Lauren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Arleen in 2006; a brother, Frank; a sister, Helen Messer; and a half brother, Dick Fiester.
Harry Eugene Danskin was born Sept. 7, 1918, in Marengo, Iowa, the son of Harry G. Danskin and Emma V. (McKusker) Danskin. He graduated from Marengo High School in 1935 and married Arleen Marie Madison on Dec. 26, 1941, in Kirksville, Mo. The couple farmed for many years. They moved from the farm into Marengo in 2001.
Eugene was a member of First United Methodist Church, Marengo, where he was very active in earlier years. He also belonged to the Farm Bureau. He enjoyed his card clubs and was an avid Hawkeye fan.
Memorials may be contributed to First United Methodist Church or the Marengo Memorial Hospital.
