Danly, James Howard
James Howard Danly, 82, of Mechanicsville, died Monday, Oct. 31, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 4, at Morgan Funeral & Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon, by the Rev. William Harnish. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial: Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mary Lou; son, Steven (Becky) Danly of Mechanicsville; daughter, Julie (Steve) Akers of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Jennifer Brandt of Mechanicsville and Brian (Penny) Danly of Cedar Rapids; great-grandchildren, Jocelyn, Alex and Kaiden; brother, Richard Danly of Mechanicsville; and many nieces and nephews.
Jim was born Oct. 9, 1929, in Mechanicsville, the son of James Henry and Muriel (Spoor) Danly. He graduated from Mechanicsville High School in 1948. Jim married Mary Lou Sproston on Aug. 14, 1949, in Mechanicsville. He worked for Iowa Electric Light & Power for 30 years, retiring in 1991.
After retirement, Jim and Mary Lou spent many winters in Texas. He volunteered for the Mechanicsville Fire Department for many years. Jim enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, and being outside.
He treasured his time with his family and will be greatly missed.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Bette Conrad and Marianne Bohr.
