Doris T. “Pat” Daniels, 81, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2012, at home in Granger, Ind.
She was born April 3, 1930, at Muscatine General Hospital in Muscatine, Iowa, to Charles and Hildegarde (Kelley) Fletcher. She attended Rainbow and Melpine schools and Muscatine High School, graduating in 1948. Pat went on to Iowa State Teachers College, where she earned her teaching certificate in elementary education. She later continued her education at Mount Mercy College, earning a B.A., and began graduate studies at UNI. Pat married Robert “Bob” Daniels on Sept. 28, 1957, in Muscatine.
Pat had a long career as a kindergarten teacher who was dedicated to her students. Over the years she taught in a number of school districts, but most of her teaching career was spent within the Benton Community School District. Her commitment to excellence in education led her in 1990 to found the Elberon Public Library, where she served as library director for 21 years before retiring in 2011. In 2007 she received the State of Iowa Governor's Volunteer Award for her work at the Elberon Public Library.
She is survived by her son, Michael; daughter, Diane; son-in-law Jon Pilarski; and grandson, Nicholas Pilarski.
Other survivors include her sister, Janet Nagel; niece, Lisa (Bill) Tuckett; nephews, Father Kurt Nagel, Reed (Jackie) Nagel and children, Katie and Sam, and Scott (Karin) Nagel, and children, Nickolas and Nathan; her aunt, Mardel Fletcher; and numerous cousins.
There will be no visitation. The family requests no flowers.
