DANIEL B. "BARNEY" MCGOVERN
Central City
Daniel B. "Barney" McGovern, 49, of Central City, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2018. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2018, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. The family will greet friends from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home on Saturday. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Hazel Knoll Cemetery in rural Viola.
Dan was born July 3, 1968, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Gary and Connie (Baumgartel) McGovern. He graduated from Central City High School in 1986 and attended Kirkwood Community College and the University of Iowa. Dan was employed at PMX in Cedar Rapids. He was a craftsman and handyman with a heart of gold. Dan helped on the farm and loved playing with his kids, nieces and nephews. His favorite pastimes were driving the kids around in his Jeep and playing video games with his son, Sam. He had an ability to know everything, especially random facts. Dan was a wonderful and loving father and his kids always came first.
He is survived by his daughter, Olivia McGovern; son, Samuel McGovern; parents, Gary and Connie McGovern; siblings, Peggy (Dan) Bragg, Annette Caffery, Kellean Nielsen and Chris (Ranae) McGovern; former wife, Michelle Strand; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Dan's memory may be directed to the family.
