Daniel was born Aug. 13, 1940, in Chicago, the son of Delbert and Rosella (Little) Manning. He married Carolyn "Terry" Lahue on Nov. 20, 1965, in Walker, Iowa. Daniel was a proud veteran and served our country in the U.S. Navy. He obtained his bachelor's degree from Coe College in Cedar Rapids and pursued his M.A. and Ed.S. degrees at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.

While teaching in Bettendorf, he coached boys tennis at Pleasant Valley High School and later coached girls tennis at Bettendorf High School.
Daniel greatly enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, and loved teaching and coaching. He volunteered activities for many years at Genesis Hospital and as a volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society. Daniel liked being active outdoors: hiking, biking and playing tennis.
