Daniel L. LaKose, 53, of Walford, passed away surrounded by immediate and extended family members, Thursday, May 29, 2014.
Dan was diagnosed with and courageously battled pancreatic cancer for over a year, before losing the battle. Dan was a kind man and an amazing provider for his family. His number one priority was his wife and boys and most recently, his granddaughters.
Dan was born Nov. 28, 1960, in Cedar Rapids, to Sharon Kleppe and Vernon LaKose. Growing up, Dan worked as a self-taught mechanic for many service stations before becoming employed with PMX for 22 years. He enjoyed cars, camping and boating with his family.
He married Marlus Haigh on June 6, 1981, in Lamont, Iowa. They had three sons, Travis, Tristan and Tyler.
He is survived by his wife, Marlus; and sons, Travis (Savanah) LaKose, Tristan LaKose (Stacy Fields) and Tyler LaKose. Granddaughters include Charlee Rae and Lainey Mae LaKose.
Parents include Sharon (Dave) Kleppe and Vernon LaKose; in-laws, Judy and Larry Gaffney; brother, David (Deb) LaKose; sisters, Julie (Steve) Uelze, Sheryl (Bob) Steggall and Carol (Dan) Matus; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mark (Jane) Haigh, Marsha (John) Thomas, Mike (Karla) and Mitch (Leslie) Gaffney; and nieces and nephews, Breanna (Luke) Stanley, Adam (Kirsten) LaKose, Cody LaKose, Brittney LaKose, Ryan (Mary) Danley, Bobby Steggall, Kylie Danley (Skylar Anholt), Dominic Martinez, Jayden Gaffney, Dustin (Brenda) Bond, Eric (Stephanie) Bond, Angie (Chris) Henry, Adam and Abby Haigh, Brandon, Lindsay (Clint) Gentry, Chris (Grace) Haigh, Aaron (Mikayla) Haigh and Amanda Matus, Tracy Weems and Brian Uelze.
Also survivings are great-nieces and nephews, Mason Stanley, Madyson and Kenzie LaKose, Landyn Danley, Avery Bond, Madelyn, Nick, Olivia, Payton and Max Henry and Kaylee Weems.
Also special people in his life, Art McGowan, Pat McMickle, Rob Koopman and Dave Schliemann.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Bernard and Della Helms and Charles and Verla LaKose; uncles, Ray Helms, Melvin Tudor and Chuck Hepker; cousin, Tim Tudor; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
No services will be held, but a Celebration of Life will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at Wild Hog Saloon in Walford.
